Brown Turkey Figs…

This is my Brown Turkey Fig Tree…I’m ashamed…I have something on my conscience…I have to confess this publicly…I had a tree full of figs this summer and I didn’t do a thing with them…I ate some, but I didn’t make Fig Jam or Fig Chutney or any other fig dish…I’m sorry…but I sure have fat and happy birds and squirrels…that eases my conscience ….a little…I’m sorry, I promise I’ll do better next year!!!

It has these gorgeous huge leaves that are just a little tinged by the frost…still beautiful…

It still has a few figs that haven’t ripened and won’t get to ripen because of the frost…

The leaves are beautiful, I’ve seen bloggers who use them to decorate a beautiful dish that they created…not me…I’m sorry…I’ll do better next year!!!

An empty bird’s nest wearing a dried fig and some bugs…I could say that I didn’t want to disturb it, but I’d be dishonest, I didn’t know it was there before I took these pictures, I’m sorry I’ll do better next year!!!

Nandina and Beautyberry

Nandina, Heavenly Bamboo or Sacred Bamboo is an easy-to-grow plant, I started these from some seedlings from my husband’s parents’ home. The entire plant is poisonous except to birds, they are immune to the poisons in it.

 

I was afraid this might be a weed. Catherine at a Garden In Progress told me that this is a Beautyberry. I think this is the perfect name for this lovely little bush with these gorgeous berries. Thanks Catherine, I’m so relieved that it isn’t a weed.

Tootsie, please don’t breathe a word of this….it’s the middle of October…and I have…are you ready???? Ripe Strawberries!!!

My husband has decided that Black-eyed Susan vines are invasive…wow what a wonderful invasive…for some unknown reason these don’t have the “black eyes”…

Does anyone know what this little bush is???  If it’s a weed…break it to me gently!!! It has gorgeous berries…

            I may have pruned my rose bush a little early…since it’s putting on new growth…

The Summer of ‘69..

The summer of ‘69 brought a lot of history to our country. The first walk on the moon and Woodstock are two of the most notable events. The JFKennedy & Barstow Class of 1969 entered the world among psychedelic drugs, the height of space exploration and bohemian dress.

Another historical event that took place on August 15-18, 1969 was a music festival, billed as "An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music". The name Woodstock might be a little more familiar. Thirty two acts performed at the three-day festival and included Blood, Sweat and Tears, Three Dog Night, the 5th Dimension, Rare Earth, the Grass Roots, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Canned Heat.
