Showing my “Green” for a St. Paddy’s Day lunch…

"The Wearing of the Green" symbolizes the birth of springtime.

Irish legend states that green clothes attract faeries and aid crops.

I’m not superstitious but I’m certainly for anything that might make things a bit better….I’ll take any help that I can get…

So here’s my on-line version of “wearing of the green”…

Dreaming and Planning for some “Blue”

We haven’t seen any blue skies around here for so long, I had to Google blue skies in order to see them,

…and water, well, we’ve had a lot but it certainly isn’t anywhere near blue…so I Googled blue water…

…and then I Googled Blue Flowers…

and got my very favorite blue…the blue Plumbago…

I know they grow abundantly in some places but in NW Tennessee they are not seen much…I love to grow them and have for the past five years…If you haven’t tried one in your garden, do, I think you’ll be pleased…

Plumbago is native to South Africa, and is a popular ornamental in subtropical gardens in Florida and California.

Plumbago does best in light, sandy soils with good drainage. Note: they are not cold hardy… Light: Full sun. Flowering will be reduced in partial shade. Moisture: Plumbago survives with little watering once established, and is considered moderately drought tolerant. Hardiness: USDA Zones 8B-11.

Plumbago is a tender perennial with profuse blue flowers. It loves the heat, doesn't mind our long, humid summers, and is reasonably drought tolerant. Disease-, pest- and deer-resistant, Plumbago is also known as Skyflower because of its sky-blue color. It blooms even in considerable shade.

I’m off to find out when my favorite garden center opens…

Just Playing…with camera and thrift store finds

I shopped at the local Goodwill this week and wanted to share some photos that I’m playing with of my “finds”…

Some bowls, salad plates and a platter…in a pretty  floral design…they’re old enough to be “crackley”…and some pretty old doilies….

My photo assistant and I staged the platter on a thrifted cake stand with some fresh flowers and nuts…see the white and yellow doily …

Photo assistant Zoe checks each and every almond for photogenic qualities, striving for the very best photographic advantage…

Up close and personal with that crochet doily…

Doily group shot…Zoe said they looked nice on the clear cake pedestal…

 

I believe that the lace on each of these is hand crocheted..

  I think this platter will look nice with some yellow and green dishes complementing it…

  Can you see the crackle grazing…Now I’m looking forward to finding complementing pieces, napkins, placemats, silverware, tablecloth, ….maybe this wasn’t such a bargain after all…

Zoe said that we needed a “Little Sunshine” today…

Skywatch Friday March 13, 2009

The dogs and I were outside earlier this week playing with the camera...Zoe is my photographer's assistant and Buddy, well he's just Buddy, he sorta keeps an eye on us...just in case... No special effects, lenses, exotic locations--just our own backyard...lookin' up at the sky...through the branches of the Pussywillow tree...

Yep, we were under the Pussywillow Tree...Zoe thought it was so much fun and Buddy just looked around hoping no dog could see the spectacle of his Mom and Zoe laying under the tree taking photos...
