BUGS…They’ve ruined my day!

I went outside a few minutes ago with my camera, I didn’t have any plans, I was just walking around shooting…

Then I realized…bugs, I was shooting bugs…that makes me buggy…

This is a Japanese Beetle…they are dangerous…they will eat everything…I know…they’ve eaten my ornamental cherry tree, my roses, my calla lilies and more roses and here one is perched on my Lythrum….Get chemicals quick…I was trying to go natural this summer when it came to chemically treating my yard…NOT…the ants have invaded now (the natural product I purchased---they water skiied through it and laughed at me)---the weeds have completely taken over…now Roundup is my best friend…and these Japanese Beetles pulled up a chair to their gourmet table (my roses)…now Sevin is my BFF and I’m going to get some ant poison now…

  1. I totally agree with your unhappiness with bugs and weeds. I had to get out the roundup a couple of weekends ago. I love Zinnia's they are such a fun flower. Your first photo is just fabulous. I hope you get a lot of chemicals to get the bugs under control and have a great OW!

  2. Gorgeous pictures! Good luck with that JB - I sincerely feel your anxiety. I've been praying that they miss my 16 baby Belinda's Dream rose bushes (what a mess!).

  3. Japanese beetles can be quite a nuisance. From what I understand, they originate as grubs in your lawn. Milky spore is supposed to be good to get rid of grubs and is safe around pets and children.

As far as the beetles themselves, garlic oil spray works well and is safe around pets and children. (You can make your own by mixing vegetable or mineral oil with crushed garlic cloves.)

Okay, I'm done talking about the bugs now. Your garden is beautiful!

  8. Puppy kisses to you as well! Thank you for following on my blog...your pretty picture was a nice surprise today.

Thank you for the sweet comment on my post.

I want to tell you that I LOVE bumble bees so I especially liked your post today. Now the japanese beatle...that is another story...is it also called a Junebug? Our small dog, Flower, likes to eat those when she goes out for her last run around the yard at night...she crunches them up...they are everywhere. Hmmm, I may also need some bug spray.

You take the BEST pictures...thank you so much for sharing your bugs and your gorgeous flowers today.

    Hugs,

    Kristine

  9. I hate, hate, hate Japanese Beetles. They do destroy everything! I have never felt such intense hatred for any bug before. You must be a little farther east or south than me because they haven't shown their ugly faces here yet but I know the inevitable is coming. A garden friend of mine said she uses a hand-held vac and then dumps them into a bucket of soapy water.

  10. Becky, Let me know what you found to use on the ants as they are driving me crazy this year. I have tried everything I can think of. I love your zinnias, as they are so beautiful, all of the flowers are. So perfect. I have signed up to follow your BLOG, and I would be honored if you pop over and do the same. 13. Haha -- I've got a picture of a bug on a daisy on my blog post today, too. Glad I'm not the only one.

Gorgeous flowers! and I think most of us resort to bringing out "the big guns" when the situation gets desperate. Japanese beetles are a scourge -- an old German gentleman in my neighborhood when I was a child used to visit all the neighboring yards, and pluck them off everyone's roses, one by one, and drown them in beer!

  14. Japanese Beetles are our enemy also---and we have Sevin!!!!! It's hard to go natural---so at times like this, we don't worry!!!!! One just has to do what one has to do... Right?????? Don't tell PETA though... They'll come after us!!!!! ha ha

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  15. I know exactly how you feel. I don't have Japanese beetles but I've got slugs - ugh! And with the all rain we've had I've got lots of fungus and weeds. I try to garden organic but I'm at the point where I'm spraying with something more. -Jackie

  16. Your flowers and the photos you've taken of them are beautiful. It's tough to go natural in a garden as beautiful as yours must be. Blessings...Mary

  17. Such pesty critters. I love how healthy your Zinnias look though. Usually they are the first to be bothered by bugs in my garden. Your photographs are magnificent.

  19. Those Zinnia's are beautiful! And I must say that I have never heard of, let alone seen, a white squirrel. It was gorgeous.
The other afternoon I was running the sprinklers and it was warm out. A hummingbird came by and was cooling off in the spray. It was a pretty neat site!

Stopping by to give you a big welcome to the SITStahood. We are so glad you joined us and look forward to seeing you around!

  20. Becky, your garden is absolutely beautiful! And I love your photography! The bugs are even cute.....okay, I know they're not cute if they are in your own garden....LOL

  21. Hi Becky, your photos are terrific! Love your beautiful flowers! I was introduced to Japanese Beetles when I moved to Maryland. They completely demolished my rose bushes in just one season! It was awful! I battled them for 5 years. Their quantity finally began to subside. By the time I moved they were so few, the lucky new home owner got a fabulous garden!

Good luck with your battle against those horrible creatures!

Hope you had a lovely and safe 4th of July!
