Stella D’Oro

I love my Stellas…but I only use organic fertilizer on them now…I used to use commercial fertilizers but I’m now thinking that the natural way is much better for the soil…the commercial products made the blooms larger but I believe it’s a pretty good trade-off for better soil…anyone else with thought about the natural fertilizers???

  1. That hot pink Astillbe is gorgeous. I love Spiderwort. I have a purple and the pink/purple like yours - I want to put the 2 of them together somewhere to really accent each other.

  2. Your blooms are beautiful. Spiderwort grows like weed around here. I'd say Natural is always better!

  5. Beautiful blooms! I try to organic almost exclusively. I use manure, compost, and fish fertilizer alot. I've also amended with bone meal, blood meal, and other naturals ingredients. There are times though when unfortunately things need a little boost beyond what the organics can do for me, but I try to keep that at a minimum. -Jackie

  6. Your flowers are just beautiful. I'm ashamed to say that I haven't gotten on the natural bandwagon. My dad is a Master Gardener/Naturalist in Texas...he would not appreciate my Miracle Grow addiction.

  7. I love your astilbe, I've never had much luck with mine. But Spiderwort on the other hand grows by leaps and bounds. I have both the dark and lighter purples. Your photos are stunning. ~ Robyn

  8. I Just switched to KGro after using MiracleGro and I am happy with the results so far. Its half the price too(-: I also use chicken manure compost. This has been the best year so far with this schedule of fertilizing!

  12. Beautiful. I also use natural stuff in the garden now. We have so many birds, the dog, friends children...I just shudder to think what chemical residues they might get. We have to look after the land...it's our home :-)
I am using fish fertilizer and it's great!!
