Stella D’Oro

I love my Stellas…but I only use organic fertilizer on them now…I used to use commercial fertilizers but I’m now thinking that the natural way is much better for the soil…the commercial products made the blooms larger but I believe it’s a pretty good trade-off for better soil…anyone else with thought about the natural fertilizers???

The Mystery of the …

Have you ever just wondered about something…how it began, who started it, why it was started…

Well, this is something I have wondered about….

A local restaurant has these jars of buttons …you can see the restaurant tickets in the foreground…they’ve always been mysterious to me (the jars of buttons, not the tickets)…I’ve heard the employees tell that the buttons were bought at an auction…I’d love to know their real story…

The little pint fruit jar on top of the big jar gives you an idea of the size of these glass jars…I’m sure they hold several gallons…gallons of buttons…

Button Soup anyone???

An Intense Life…without apology…

This is my very favorite daylily…can you see why…I think it is intense…like life, without apology.

My husband and I bought it for my Mom a few years ago, we told the nursery owner that we wanted something bright and intense like my Mom…he selected this plant but cautioned us it would only bloom once that first summer. It bloomed everyday for the rest of the summer…just like it knew that Mom wouldn’t be there for another summer so it had to show its intensity and glory…just like Mom.
